M-Files joins Microsoft 365 for next-gen document management

M-Files has unveiled a major update to its long-running partnership with Microsoft, announcing that it will now natively store content in Microsoft 365 through SharePoint Embedded.

This step removes the trade-off businesses previously faced between using M-Files’ deep industry-specific capabilities and benefiting from the full suite of Microsoft 365 features, including co-authoring, Microsoft Search, and Copilot.

Until now, many organisations had to choose between advanced document management platforms like M-Files or native Microsoft 365 functions such as real-time collaboration and enterprise search. The new integration means customers can have both, enabling real-time document co-authoring, enterprise-wide search, and AI-powered features without compromising security or compliance.

The partnership significantly enhances M-Files’ capabilities across industries ranging from accounting and wealth management to energy, scientific research, insurance, and manufacturing. By leveraging SharePoint Embedded, businesses can now unlock AI-powered agents capable of reasoning over curated, metadata-rich content to automate workflows and drive faster, data-informed decision-making.

This development is particularly important for organisations with heavy compliance and security requirements. Content stored via M-Files will remain within Microsoft 365’s security boundary and benefit from Microsoft Purview’s industry-leading compliance tools. Furthermore, Copilot will be able to analyse this content, enabling a new wave of intelligent document management solutions.
