Clover has announced the launch of a new identity-based payments capability through a collaboration with biometric identity platform Wink.
The new product has been introduced as part of a broader push to improve checkout speed, reduce fraud, and enhance the customer experience as merchants look for more secure and seamless alternatives to traditional card-based payments. With rising concerns around payment fraud and growing consumer demand for faster, contactless experiences, Clover’s move reflects a wider industry transition towards identity-driven commerce.
Fiserv provides payment processing, digital banking, and financial technology solutions to merchants, financial institutions, and businesses globally. Through its Clover platform, the company supports small and medium-sized businesses with point-of-sale hardware, software, and integrated services that help manage payments, operations, and customer engagement across in-store and digital channels.
The newly launched solution integrates Wink’s face, palm, and voice biometric payments technology directly into the Clover platform, combining identity verification, payments, and intelligence in a single experience. By embedding AI-powered biometrics and secure identity layers, Clover enables merchants to offer faster, more personalised checkout while helping to secure each transaction without increasing operational complexity.
Under the integration, biometric profiles are managed through a secure token vault, ensuring sensitive data is not stored alongside payment credentials. This approach is designed to strengthen transaction security and align with strict standards around payments, data protection, and regulatory frameworks. The solution will initially be available to quick-service restaurants, sports venues, and retailers, with a wider rollout planned throughout 2026.
Beyond payments, the product enables biometric-driven loyalty enrolment and age-restricted commerce without the need for physical IDs, manual checks, or staff intervention. The technology can be activated across the full Clover device family, including Station Duo, Mini, Flex, and Clover Kiosk, without requiring new hardware or complex integrations. Additional capabilities include fraud reduction through AI-based human presence assurance and the ability to unify in-store, mobile, and online experiences through a single biometric identity.
Fiserv SVP and global chief product officer, merchant solutions Sanjay Saraf said, “The future of commerce is the unification of payment and identity. By embedding Wink’s leading biometric security and intelligence directly into the Clover platform, we’re making cutting-edge technology simple, secure, and accessible for Main Street SMB businesses, helping them to deliver exceptional experiences and unlock new opportunities for growth.”
Wink founder and CEO Deepak Jain said, “Wink’s strategic integration with Clover will bring unparalleled security, speed, and intelligence to every transaction across a large ecosystem of merchants, app developers and partners. We are excited to work closely with Fiserv to bring to market many advanced use cases of identity-driven payments that will define the future of connected commerce at scale across retail, hospitality, venues, and stadiums.”
