F5 acquires CalypsoAI to boost enterprise AI security

F5, known globally for delivering and securing applications and APIs, has announced its plans to acquire CalypsoAI, an enterprise AI security specialist recognised for its guardrail technology.

CalypsoAI, which has developed an award-winning platform for AI safety, is considered a pioneer in its field, providing tools to protect data and defend against advanced threats.

The acquisition is designed to integrate CalypsoAI’s adaptive AI security technology into the F5 Application Delivery and Security Platform (ADSP), creating what the companies describe as the most comprehensive solution for securing AI inference. The deal value has not been disclosed.

F5 is a leader in application delivery and security, serving enterprises worldwide with solutions that protect apps, APIs, and increasingly AI systems. CalypsoAI has carved out a reputation as a front-runner in enterprise AI security, offering a platform that delivers real-time threat defence, red teaming at scale, and strong data protection for businesses adopting generative and agentic AI models.

The companies highlighted the growing risks enterprises face as AI becomes deeply embedded in products and operations. The modern AI stack, which includes applications, APIs, agents, data stores, and models, is creating a complex and dynamic attack surface. Traditional firewalls and isolated solutions are struggling to keep pace with sophisticated threats, while shadow AI use and regulatory scrutiny are adding to the compliance burden. By joining forces, F5 and CalypsoAI aim to provide enterprises with a model-agnostic framework that establishes guardrails and delivers centralised visibility across their infrastructure.

CalypsoAI’s tools cover several core areas of protection. These include adversarial threat management against attacks such as prompt injection and jailbreaks, red teaming with more than 10,000 monthly attack prompts to produce risk scores, and safeguards that prevent data leakage or policy violations. The platform also provides unified observability, policy control and audit logs, helping enterprises comply with requirements such as GDPR and the EU AI Act across cloud, hybrid, and on-premises environments.

The acquisition announcement also cited Gartner’s recent Market Guide on AI Trust, Risk and Security Management (TRiSM), which stressed the importance of independence from any single AI model or hosting provider to ensure long-term scalability and trust. F5 sees CalypsoAI’s independence and adaptability as essential in addressing this demand.

F5 president and CEO François Locoh-Donou said, “AI is redefining enterprise architecture—and the attack surface companies must defend. Traditional firewalls and point solutions can’t keep up. The addition of CalypsoAI will give enterprises the confidence to innovate faster and better protect critical data as they rely on F5 to deliver and secure apps, APIs, and AI models across their environment.”

CalypsoAI CEO Donnchadh Casey said, “Enterprises want to move fast with AI while reducing the risk of data leaks, unsafe outputs, or compliance failures. Our customers rely on us to pressure test AI systems at scale, set inference layer guardrails that adapt as models change, and to gain visibility and auditability across their AI estate. F5 and CalypsoAI are more than the sum of their parts: high performance application delivery and AI security that enable businesses to deliver innovation faster without increasing risk.”
