Hawk boosts Alviere’s AML efficiency and fraud detection

Alviere, a leading provider of embedded financial services, has significantly strengthened its anti-money laundering (AML) capabilities by integrating Hawk’s AI-powered compliance platform. The move comes as the firm expands its Banking-as-a-Service (BaaS) offering across a broad range of industries and geographies.

According to Hawk, faced with increasing complexity, Alviere required a flexible AML solution to manage risk effectively while supporting a wide array of customers in sectors such as retail and financial services. Each client had its own risk appetite, and regulatory expectations differed across jurisdictions.

To meet these needs, Alviere needed to tailor AML rules per client, improve case management speed, and create accurate reports without relying on generic templates.

Traditional AML platforms struggled to meet these demands. Alviere chief compliance and risk officer Jorgen Norgaard said, “Many of the traditional AML systems couldn’t meet the specific criteria we had prioritised when we were looking for a solution. It was key that we could have rules that met our needs, but we also wanted to have machine learning and AI working for us too.”

After a comprehensive review of potential vendors, Alviere selected Hawk for its scalable, multi-tenant infrastructure and intuitive no-code interface. The Hawk platform allows Alviere to create tailored rules in-house, reducing reliance on external vendors and cutting deployment time. Hawk’s AI-powered rule engine and modern case management system also delivered increased usability and improved staff training.

One standout benefit has been the reduced time taken to review AML cases. Previously averaging around two hours, the review process now takes approximately 45 minutes. Alviere has also seen greater accuracy in customer and payment screening, with false positives substantially reduced across the board.

Modules currently in use include transaction monitoring, customer and payment screening, and customer risk rating. These tools give Alviere greater control over AML workflows, boost pKYC capabilities, and enable proactive risk management. For example, automated rescreening has replaced time-consuming manual checks, while flexible payment screening supports seamless scalability.

Jorgen Norgaard praised the ease of implementation, noting that other vendors demanded more resources. “The ease of implementation stood out. Other vendors would have required far more from us during set-up. And adding further capabilities from Hawk is just like flipping a switch.”

Looking ahead, Alviere plans to adopt Hawk’s Transaction Fraud module to enhance fraud detection while maintaining compliance. Norgaard added, “We’ve been impressed with Hawk’s continuous innovations and developments in combating AML and financial crime over the years. We’re looking at Transaction Fraud, as we can already see the huge benefits it would bring to our customers and drive forward our aims as an organisation.”

Beyond the technology itself, Alviere values the collaborative nature of the partnership. “Too often, vendors sell you what they think you need and then you’re on your own,” said Norgaard. “What’s so rewarding about working with Hawk is that they recognise we’re experts on how to best serve our customers, and they have not only listened to our feedback but acted on it. It’s that partnership approach that we’ve found most valuable.”
