Preemptive cyber defence firm Augur secures $7m to combat AI-powered threats

Augur, an AI-driven cybersecurity company specialising in predictive threat prevention, has announced the completion of a $7m seed funding round to support its mission of stopping cyberattacks before they launch.

The investment round was led by General Advance, with participation from industry veterans including Ely Kahn, vice president of product for cloud security and AI/ML at SentinelOne; Spencer Thompson, co-founder and CEO of Prelude; Travis McPeak, co-founder and CEO of Resourcely; and Josh Lospinoso, co-founder and CEO of Shift5. Senior executives from Amazon, Google, and Cloudflare also contributed to the round.

Augur has developed a pioneering platform that uses artificial intelligence to monitor global internet activity, profile attacker behaviours, and map malicious infrastructure months before it is weaponised. Unlike conventional cybersecurity tools that react to active threats, Augur’s system identifies attack setups well in advance, helping organisations act preemptively.

The newly raised capital will be used to enhance Augur’s predictive threat prevention platform, focusing on expanding its capabilities and scaling its presence across key markets. The funding will also help accelerate the company’s growth strategy following its rebrand from SecLytics to Augur.

Augur’s platform boasts a near-zero false positive rate of 0.007%, allowing security teams to block threats early or gather high-confidence intelligence for review. Already in use by financial institutions, energy providers, healthcare organisations, telecoms firms and critical infrastructure operators.

The company has demonstrated its platform’s strength by detecting threats linked to major cyber incidents, including the APT 29 SolarWinds attack, DarkSide’s Colonial Pipeline ransomware strike, exploitation of the Log4j vulnerability, and Volt Typhoon’s targeting of US infrastructure.

Augur CEO Joe Lea said, “Adversaries are weaponizing AI to accelerate attacks, and security teams need AI-driven solutions that enhance their speed and accuracy to keep up.

“Our platform has refined a decade of machine learning, behavioral research, and real-world threat telemetry into a continuously evolving knowledge base of adversary behavior. This comprehensive dataset empowers Augur to predict, detect, and disrupt threats with unparalleled accuracy.”

Investor Ely Kahn, vice president of product management at SentinelOne, added, “Augur reflects the best of innovation in cybersecurity today.

“The team, the pedigree, and the novelty of their solution are a winning combination. Augur is already on the ascent, poised for rapid growth and expansion. I’m excited to collaborate with the team as they scale the business.”
