Runlayer lands $11m to scale enterprise MCP infra

Runlayer

Runlayer, an AI infrastructure company focused on securing MCP environments for enterprise teams, has raised $11m in seed funding to expand its platform and support growing demand for safe AI integration.

The company confirmed that the $11m round was led by Keith Rabois at Khosla Ventures, with additional backing from Felicis. Runlayer said the investment comes as enterprise adoption of MCP accelerates across global organisations.

Runlayer’s core technology is designed to help businesses manage and secure how AI systems interact with production databases, internal APIs and operational systems. As MCP becomes the standard that links AI models such as ChatGPT, Claude and Cursor to corporate tools and data, the platform aims to provide security controls and full visibility across every AI-driven action.

The new capital will be used to scale Runlayer’s enterprise MCP infrastructure, with a focus on strengthening security capabilities, improving observability and expanding deployment options. This includes features such as custom threat detection, fine-grained access controls integrated with identity providers, and a curated MCP catalogue to ensure developers connect only to vetted, trusted tools.

Additional information from the company highlights that more than 18,000 MCP servers are currently in operation, with a significant portion either malicious or exploitable. Runlayer argues that many firms are being forced to choose between blocking MCP entirely or exposing critical systems to unmanaged AI access. The company positions its platform as a way to avoid this trade-off by enabling AI adoption with enterprise-grade governance.

Several organisations are already using Runlayer in production, including AI-native firms such as Gusto and Opendoor. The business also benefits from the support of notable industry advisors, including David Soria Parra, the co-creator of MCP at Anthropic, and Travis McPeak, head of security at Cursor.
