In 2025, RegTech is transforming financial services by simplifying compliance and strengthening risk management as global regulations intensify. Financial institutions are leveraging AI and data analytics to meet regulatory demands, prioritizing cybersecurity and sustainable finance to drive innovation and trust.
FinTech Global recently hosted its latest Global RegTech Summit in London, welcoming RegTech leaders for a day to network and discuss the latest trends and innovations driving the RegTech sector.
One panel, ‘RegTech and the Regulators: Priorities for FS Transformation In 2025’, featured Corlytics CEO John Byrne, University of East London’s Iwa Salami and Jersey Financial Services Commission’s Alan Ainsworth. The panel took a deep dive into the idea of the priorities for financial services transformation in 2025, and the role of RegTech and regulators in that move.
For the panel, one of the key areas of priority would be to build out the strengths around the need for regulatory harmonisation, particularly when considering many of the routes taken by regulators so far. They gave the example of the UK, which she claimed has a ‘tech-positive and ‘tech centric’ approach to regulation that engages industry – as compared to the EU, which she said was much more rule-based.
“If we’re thinking about the issues of bringing on AI compliance systems, and the issues around the worries around AI, such as bias, accountability and governance, the real issue would be around harmonisation,” they detailed.
Earlier in the year, EY detailed some of the key issues that were front of mind for regulators in financial services. Some of these included the idea that regulation which prioritizes national interests will drive greater fragmentation, the need to expect increased scrutiny of third-party and non-bank risk exposures, the need of securing good outcomes for consumers will continue to play a prominent role and accountability and timely remediation of weaknesses to top regulators’ risk management agendas.
In September, FinTech Global will be hosting the 4th annual Global RegTech Summit USA in New York. The event is the largest gathering of RegTech leaders and innovators in the US and a great place to connect with industry experts and RegTech leaders.
