Worldpay and Trulioo have entered into a strategic partnership to enhance trust and accountability in AI-powered agent-led commerce.
The collaboration aims to introduce safeguards that bring trust, consent and accountability to the growing use of AI agents in digital payments. This move comes as AI systems increasingly act on behalf of consumers, making identity verification and consent capture critical for fraud prevention and regulatory compliance.
Worldpay provides payment processing solutions for merchants, financial institutions and partners worldwide, enabling secure transactions across multiple payment channels. Trulioo specialises in digital identity verification services, offering global coverage and real-time verification for individuals and businesses to combat fraud and meet compliance requirements.
At the centre of this partnership is the Know Your Agent (KYA) framework, underpinned by a Digital Agent Passport. This tamper-proof set of credentials will allow merchants to verify whether an AI agent is legitimate, authorised and operating with proper consent. The framework will outline guidelines for verifying the developer’s identity, code integrity, user consent and the agent’s ongoing trustworthiness in real time.
Worldpay will enable merchants to leverage the KYA framework to validate consumer intent and the authority granted to AI agents, thereby protecting against unauthorised purchases while supporting sales growth. This innovation is expected to help merchants and platforms create new experiences, including smarter checkout processes and real-time fraud detection, while maintaining safety and transparency.
The approach will ensure that verified AI agents are granted access, unknown agents encounter friction, and malicious bots are blocked. The resulting benefits include reduced fraud, better agent detection and improved checkout conversion rates for merchants. Consumers will gain confidence that AI assistants are acting within authorised boundaries, while the wider commerce ecosystem will benefit from a shared trust layer that supports ongoing innovation and meets regulatory requirements.
Worldpay chief product officer Cindy Turner said, “Innovation in payments must always be grounded in integrity and trust. By partnering with Trulioo, we’re delivering the trust infrastructure our ecosystem needs and empowering businesses and consumers to embrace AI-powered commerce with confidence, knowing that safety and transparency are at the heart of every transaction.”
Trulioo chief executive officer Vicky Bindra said, “Agentic commerce has significant potential, but it can only scale with trust built in from the start. With Worldpay, we’re laying the foundation for a more secure and accountable digital ecosystem – one where AI agents can operate transparently, and consumers stay in control.”
