Nationwide Building Society, in collaboration with cyber training specialist Capslock, is set to revolutionize the UK’s cyber security landscape.
According to Computer Weekly, this initiative aims to bolster the cyber security workforce by integrating a specialized training program into its existing graduate scheme, which has successfully accelerated the careers of over 300 graduates in the past nine years.
The new program is designed to equip participants with the skills to think like cyber criminals—a crucial strategy for anticipating and mitigating cyber threats. Capslock will assist Nationwide in onboarding, training, and integrating these individuals into key cyber security roles within the society. The founder and CEO of Capslock, Andrea Cullen, emphasized the importance of understanding the mindset of threat actors to effectively combat them. Cullen highlighted that the program is inclusive to individuals without a technical background, encouraging graduates and career-changers who are passionate about cyber security to participate.
The training spans 16 weeks, culminating in the attainment of Certified Cyber Security Practitioner (Ce-CSP) certifications. This approach not only prepares the trainees to tackle real-world cyber security challenges but also promotes a diverse and inclusive environment within the sector.
David Boda, chief security and resilience officer at Nationwide, outlined the dual benefits of the program, noting its potential to advance the UK’s overall cyber security capabilities while enhancing the society’s own defenses. Boda pointed out the constant evolution of the cyber threat landscape, stressing the need for diverse perspectives in maintaining a step ahead of potential threats.
A banking IT specialist, with experience in cyber security at large banks, also supported the initiative, noting the essential nature of understanding cyber criminals’ tactics. This professional underscored the ongoing battle between banks and cyber criminals, emphasizing the relentless need for robust cyber security defenses.
Nationwide’s commitment extends beyond enhancing internal security measures; it aims to contribute significantly to the development of the UK’s cyber security skillset, thereby supporting national resilience against cyber threats.
