MirrorTab raises $8.5m to combat advanced browser-based cyber threats

MirrorTab, a cybersecurity firm specializing in advanced web application protection, has secured $8.5m in a seed funding round.

The investment was spearheaded by Valley Capital Partners, with significant contributions from GV, Ludlow Ventures, Altman Capital Fund, NextGen Venture Partners, and Alumni Ventures.

This cybersecurity company offers a dynamic solution to protect web applications by using isolation technology that obfuscates data, code, and APIs, effectively removing the browser as a potential attack surface. This approach allows sensitive business, personal, and financial information to be shared securely.

The fresh capital will be utilized by MirrorTab to further develop its innovative capabilities, enhance integrations, and broaden its commercial availability. These developments aim to fortify its offering in the face of increasingly sophisticated cyber threats.

In addition to its core web application protection services, MirrorTab is dedicated to addressing the evolving landscape of cyberattacks that exploit browsers through AI and automation. This focus on combating such threats distinguishes it from traditional detection-based security measures which often fail to detect advanced hacking techniques.

Brian Silverstein, CEO and founder of MirrorTab, provided insights into the company’s strategic direction: “Browsers have become the battleground for hacking, bots, and malware. Cyberattacks have evolved, leveraging browsers, AI and automation to evade detection, mimic human-like behavior, and execute attacks that cannot be prevented with typical web security controls. MirrorTab addresses this critical blind spot in traditional detection-based solutions.”

Before establishing MirrorTab, Brian co-founded Honey, a popular shopping rewards browser extension. This background has informed his understanding of the potential for technology to be misused by malicious actors, prompting the creation of MirrorTab to safeguard web sessions.

Allison Miller, MirrorTab Advisor and former CISO and VP of Trust at Reddit, further emphasized the uniqueness of MirrorTab’s solution: “MirrorTab protects any web platform by securing the session itself—a capability that Web Application Firewalls (WAFs) and bot management tools don’t have. It creates a secure, bot-proof wrapper. Even if the client is untrusted or compromised, MirrorTab ensures sensitive information doesn’t leak, under all circumstances.”

Steve O’Hara, Founder and Managing Partner at Valley Capital Partners, also commented on the investment’s significance: “Recent events have shown just how devastating these attacks can be, with critical personal and financial information easily acquired. The scale of fraud, theft, and damage attributable to these client-side attacks is shocking and unacceptable. We believe that MirrorTab has created an innovative and effective solution that is unmatched in stopping these hard-to-detect attacks.”
