Fourthline, a European provider of AI-powered identity verification and compliance solutions, has appointed Paul Stoddart as CEO.
Stoddart replaces co-founder Krik Gunning, who has led the company since it was established. Gunning will remain involved with the business in an advisory capacity to support the leadership transition.
Fourthline specialises in digital identity verification and compliance technology designed to help financial institutions tackle fraud and meet regulatory requirements. Its platform uses artificial intelligence to verify customer identities and support onboarding processes, helping banks and FinTech firms meet strict anti-money laundering and know your customer obligations.
The company has built a strong presence across Europe, partnering with a range of leading financial services organisations as demand for secure digital identity solutions continues to grow.
Paul Stoddart will take charge of guiding Fourthline’s next stage of development. As CEO, he will oversee the company’s expansion into new geographies and industry sectors, while also evaluating potential acquisitions to support strategic growth.
The firm is particularly focused on opportunities created by Europe’s new Anti-Money Laundering Regulation (AMLR) and the broader rise in demand for digital identity and trust services across industries.
Stoddart brings significant experience in scaling technology businesses and driving sustainable growth. His background includes leading expansion strategies, managing mergers and acquisitions, and building partnerships within the financial services sector. Fourthline said his industry network and track record in growing companies will play an important role as the firm seeks to strengthen its market position.
The leadership change comes as the company continues to build on the progress achieved under Krik Gunning. Since launching the business, Gunning has overseen its evolution from a startup into a major identity verification platform in Europe, working with high-profile financial institutions and digital banks.
Under his tenure, Fourthline established partnerships with organisations including Revolut, N26, Trade Republic, Rabobank and Triodos Bank, helping them address fraud risks and regulatory compliance challenges linked to digital onboarding.
Fourthline supervisory board member Radboud Vlaar said, “We’re delighted to welcome Paul as we enter this next chapter. His proven track record in growth-scaling and deep industry connections position Fourthline perfectly to capitalise on the evolving regulatory landscape and expanding demand for identity verification across Europe and beyond.”
Radboud Vlaar added, “Krik has built something extraordinary, not just a market-leading company, but the foundation for sustained growth and innovation. We’re immensely grateful for his vision and leadership in bringing Fourthline to this stage.”
Fourthline CEO Paul Stoddart said, “Fourthline has an incredible opportunity ahead. I’m excited to build on the strong foundation Krik and the team have created, helping our customers navigate regulatory change whilst expanding our product capability and reach across new geographies and industry verticals.”
