calQrisk, a GRC software provider serving regulated organisations, has secured a place on the UK Financial Conduct Authority’s Supercharged Sandbox, an initiative aimed at fostering the next wave of AI solutions for the financial services industry.
Firms taking part in the programme gain access to the regulator’s expertise, high-performance computing resources and synthetic financial datasets, giving them a controlled regulatory setting in which to build and test emerging technologies.
The Irish RegTech firm plans to use its participation to speed up work on AI features offering ongoing regulatory assurance to senior executives who fall under accountability regimes, including the UK’s Senior Managers and Certification Regime (SMCR).
Although regulated firms produce large amounts of governance, risk and compliance data, this information often sits in silos spread across different systems, documents and departments. calQrisk aims to link these disparate sources together, monitor shifts in risk exposure and regulatory duties on a continuous basis, and provide tailored, timely assurance to the people accountable for oversight.
In contrast to general-purpose AI tools, calQrisk has built its technology with regulated settings in mind, where explainability, transparency, strong governance and evidential rigour are non-negotiable. The system is intended to assist compliance and governance teams by highlighting pertinent insights, reinforcing oversight and raising the standard of regulatory evidence, all while keeping firms in full control of their own data.
The company works with close to 300 organisations worldwide, providing support across enterprise risk management, operational resilience, compliance, audit, third-party risk management and governance within financial services and other heavily regulated industries.
calQrisk CEO Chris Hanlon said, “Regulated organisations already hold the information they need to demonstrate good governance. The challenge is that it is rarely connected in a way that gives senior decision-makers continuous visibility of their responsibilities.
Participation in the FCA Supercharged Sandbox enables us to work alongside the regulator as we develop AI capabilities that help organisations transform fragmented governance data into meaningful, real-time assurance. Our focus is on helping customers make better decisions using their own trusted information within secure, governed and auditable processes.”
