Kyndryl has worked alongside Incore Bank and Google Cloud to trial an agentic AI approach designed to speed up customer onboarding and automate risk assessment within banking compliance processes.
The proof of concept applied Google’s Gemini models together with Kyndryl’s Agentic AI Framework, layering in policy as code capability and guardrail agents to build a semantic layer over existing systems. The trial reported accuracy of up to 99% in extracting data automatically from onboarding documents, alongside the potential to cut onboarding timelines from several months down to just days.
The initiative was designed to tackle a persistent bottleneck in banking: Know Your Customer (KYC) checks that typically require staff to pull together, verify and cross-reference evidence spread across numerous documents, systems and data sources, all while keeping records audit-ready. Where these steps depend on manual handovers between teams, onboarding tends to drag and compliance staff end up absorbed in repetitive administrative work rather than higher-value judgment calls.
Multiple AI agents were deployed within the solution to work across both structured and unstructured data, pulling from internal systems as well as trusted external sources. Their remit covered extracting and validating customer details, gathering supporting evidence, identifying risk factors, generating explainable risk scores and compiling auditable decision records for compliance teams to review. The framework was also built to support ongoing monitoring, flagging changes in a customer’s circumstances after onboarding rather than treating risk assessment as a one-off check.
Kyndryl describes itself as a leading provider of mission-critical enterprise technology services. The proof of concept forms part of its broader agentic AI work, which it positions as a means for organisations in tightly regulated sectors to modernise core processes without sacrificing governance or oversight.
Incore Bank CEO Mark Dambacher said, “At Incore Bank, we believe innovation must go hand in hand with trust, transparency and strong regulatory governance. The proof of concept we completed with Kyndryl and Google Cloud shows how cloud-enabled agentic AI can help banks assess both prospective and existing customers more efficiently while maintaining the rigorous oversight and controls required in a regulated environment. By reducing manual effort and supporting consistent, transparent decision-making, the solution has the potential to strengthen customer risk management across the entire customer lifecycle.”
Kyndryl Alps managing director and vice president Jacqueline Wild said, “Agentic AI is the next stage in the evolution of enterprise AI, orchestrating complex business workflows. In highly regulated industries such as banking, success depends on strong governance, explainability, auditability, secure data access and human oversight. By leveraging Kyndryl’s Agentic AI Framework and policy as code capability, our work with Incore Bank and Google Cloud shows how organizations can modernize critical processes while maintaining the trust, control and regulatory rigor that banking demands.”
