FinScan and Quantifind target gaps left by watchlist screening

FinScan, an Innovative Systems solution and provider of AML and sanctions compliance technology, has partnered with Quantifind to integrate AI-powered adverse media intelligence into sanctions, politically exposed person (PEP) and watchlist screening workflows.

The integration brings Quantifind’s Graphyte platform into FinScan’s existing screening capabilities, giving compliance teams a broader view of potential financial crime risks while helping filter duplicate and low-value alerts. The partnership is designed to help firms identify risks that may not yet appear on formal watchlists.

The initiative targets a persistent challenge in AML compliance: the volume of information that teams need to monitor and assess. Adverse media can surface potential links to money laundering, human trafficking, corruption and other financial crime before they result in a formal listing, but manually reviewing large volumes of news can create significant workloads and alert fatigue.

Graphyte continuously scans global news and other public sources for emerging financial crime risks. The platform uses purpose-built language models, AI-driven entity resolution and dynamic risk typologies to process multilingual content, while the combined solution allows institutions to investigate relevant findings within the same workflow used for sanctions and watchlist checks.

The platforms are designed to support continuous monitoring of customers, suppliers and counterparties across banks, insurers, payment providers, FinTechs and other regulated firms. FinScan provides AML capabilities spanning KYC, sanctions screening, risk scoring and data quality, while Quantifind’s Graphyte combines internal, third-party and open-source data to provide AI-powered risk intelligence.

FinScan chief operating officer Deborah Overdeput said, “Regulators increasingly expect AML programs to demonstrate effectiveness, not simply the existence of controls. Adverse media has become one of the hardest areas to get right because the volume is enormous and much of it is noise. Compliance teams can spend countless hours reviewing alerts while still missing the customer who was never on a watchlist. Graphyte helps identify what matters, while FinScan provides the data quality, precision matching, and workflow to turn those insights into action.”

Quantifind COO Graham Bailey also commented, “Modern compliance programs need adverse media intelligence that is accurate, explainable, and fast enough to support confident decision-making. Graphyte was built to resolve entities and assess risk across vast volumes of public data with the transparency regulated organizations require. Partnering with FinScan enables compliance teams to incorporate that intelligence directly into their existing screening workflows, helping analysts make faster, more informed decisions.”

The partnership comes as regulators place greater emphasis on the effectiveness of AML controls, with FATF’s fifth round of mutual evaluations focusing more heavily on measurable outcomes. It also reflects a wider move towards continuous, intelligence-led monitoring as firms look beyond traditional watchlist screening to identify emerging financial crime risks.
