Fime buys Red Alert Labs to build digital trust empire

Fime

Fime, a global provider of testing, certification and advisory services spanning payments, digital identity and smart mobility, has acquired Red Alert Labs, an accredited and independent cybersecurity evaluation and certification specialist, marking a further step in Fime’s drive to become a global digital trust provider.

The deal brings cybersecurity evaluation, certification expertise and compliance automation into Fime’s existing portfolio, broadening its reach beyond its traditional strongholds.

The move reflects a wider shift in how trust is being addressed across digital ecosystems. Payments, digital identities, connected devices and AI-enabled services are increasingly built on shared foundations of security, interoperability and compliance, meaning providers can no longer treat these areas as separate concerns.

Fime’s stated goal is to build the trust infrastructure needed to let these ecosystems scale, pairing sector expertise with testing and assurance platforms, plus independent evaluation and certification, across the full lifecycle of digital products and services.

Central to the acquisition is Red Alert Labs’ CyberPass platform, which automates compliance processes. Beyond accredited security evaluation, CyberPass lets manufacturers assess and continually improve their readiness for compliance, while giving schemes and certification bodies the tools to manage and scale assessment and certification work.

That capability arrives at a pointed moment for the industry. Reporting obligations under the Cyber Resilience Act begin on 11 September 2026, ahead of the Act’s core requirements coming into force on 11 December 2027. Manufacturers will need to show ongoing cybersecurity compliance throughout a product’s life, not just when it first reaches the market.

Combining forces, Fime and Red Alert Labs plan to guide customers through the full journey, from advisory work and security-by-design principles through implementation, testing, evaluation and certification, to continuous assurance thereafter.

This carries Fime’s established payments and digital identity approach into cybersecurity, aiming to help customers launch trusted technologies more quickly and sustain that trust as products, rules and threats shift over time.

Red Alert Labs will keep operating as an accredited, independent cybersecurity laboratory, retaining the accreditations and technical independence central to its standing in the market. It will now trade under the identity Red Alert Labs, cybersecurity by Fime, pairing its established cybersecurity expertise and technology with Fime’s international scale and reach.

Fime CEO Lionel Grosclaude said, “Our ambition is to make Fime a global Digital Trust Provider. For more than three decades, we have helped build trust in payments, and we have extended that expertise into digital identity and smart mobility. Cybersecurity is the next natural step.

‘These markets are converging: customers increasingly need to prove not only that a product works and interoperates, but that it is secure, compliant and remains trustworthy throughout its lifecycle. Red Alert Labs brings us world-class cybersecurity expertise together with a platform approach that will help us deliver that trust at scale.”

Red Alert Labs founder and managing director Roland Atoui said, “Red Alert Labs was built around the idea that cybersecurity assurance needs to become scalable and continuous. Joining Fime gives us the opportunity to combine our accredited evaluation expertise and CyberPass platform with Fime’s global testing, certification and digital trust capabilities.

“Together, we can help manufacturers continuously assess their compliance readiness, help schemes industrialize certification, and extend cybersecurity trust into digital identity, wallets and emerging agentic ecosystems.”
