Covalent bets on AML Analytics to police agentic finance

AML Analytics, a provider of independent testing, validation and risk analytics for anti-money laundering systems, has secured a growth investment from private equity firm Covalent Equity Partners as AI expands the threats that financial crime defences must withstand.

Covalent, which focuses on scaling market-leading technology platforms in the AI era, will provide AMLA with both capital and operational support. The firm will use the backing to speed up work on its engineering roadmap, roll out new-generation testing engines and grow its international presence. The size of the investment was not disclosed.

AMLA was set up in 2010 and now counts more than 50 supervisory bodies and over 1,450 financial institutions among its clients, spanning almost 60 countries. Over that time, it has independently assessed thousands of financial crime systems and architectures. Its platform gives regulators and global institutions evidence-based benchmarks to measure, calibrate and confirm how well their AML systems perform.

The company believes the risks are rising. Agentic finance and generative technologies are opening up new routes for illicit money flows, and AMLA positions its reference datasets and independent benchmarks as critical tools for protecting the integrity of global markets.

AML Analytics founder and Group CEO Justin Holder said, “From day one, our mission has been to give the defenders of the financial system the empirical tools to stay ahead of increasingly sophisticated threats. Covalent shares our conviction and brings deep sector and operational expertise, which will help us scale that mission to more institutions and regulators worldwide.”

Covalent Equity Partners co-founder and managing partner Quinlan Fang said, “AI is supercharging the growth of financial crime’s surface area, outpacing the defenses built to contain it. AMLA’s 15+ years of independent fieldwork have produced a proprietary dataset and earned the trust of regulators and financial institutions worldwide. That combination is rare, and it is the foundation for the solutions AMLA is building to define the next era of defending the global financial system.”
