Bank of London

The Bank of London, a clearing and payments bank, has announced the appointment of Aris Asimakis as its new chief risk and compliance officer.

He will be responsible for strengthening the firm’s risk and compliance framework and supporting its transformation strategy.

The Bank of London, founded to reimagine clearing and payments infrastructure, focuses on building a safer and more transparent banking system. With significant funding support and a growing leadership team, the company is working towards reshaping the financial services landscape.

In his new role, Asimakis will oversee risk management across areas including enterprise risk, capital and liquidity planning, recovery and resolution preparedness, risk governance, and economic crime prevention. He will also play a key part in improving regulatory engagement, refining the risk appetite and key risk indicator frameworks, and advancing risk governance within the organisation.

Asimakis brings over two decades of experience in risk, regulation, and professional services. His career includes senior roles at the Prudential Regulation Authority, Tesco Bank, and Vanquis Bank. More recently, he spent over six years at Zempler Bank as chief risk officer, where he led the development of the enterprise risk management framework, strengthened board risk reporting, and was instrumental in the bank achieving a full licence in 2021.

Commenting on his new position, Aris Asimakis said: “Joining the Bank of London at this pivotal point in its growth journey, I look forward to advancing the Bank’s risk governance and driving transformation – including the safe adoption of emerging technologies – as we work to create a simpler, safer, and better-governed platform for clearing and payments.”

The appointment is the fifth senior hire made by the Bank in 2025, reflecting its commitment to building a strong leadership team. Last month, the company announced the arrival of Hana Rolles as chief commercial officer. Backed by more than £75m in committed funding led by Mangrove Capital Partners, the bank’s new leadership team, spearheaded by CEO Christopher Horne, is focused on achieving operational excellence, enhancing digital innovation, and positioning itself as a leading force in financial services.

Bank of London CEO Christopher Horne said: “Aris’s proven ability to implement risk appetite across functions – meeting customers’ expectations decisively and transparently – was immediately clear to me. I’m thrilled to welcome Aris to the team and am confident that together, the Bank will continue to unlock sustainable growth.”
