Cifas and Trend Micro have partnered to launch JustMe, a first-of-its-kind mobile app designed to help consumers defend against identity fraud and online scams.
The collaboration comes amid growing concern about the scale of fraud in the UK. Fraud accounts for 44% of all recorded crimes in England and Wales, with an estimated annual cost of £219bn to the economy. UK consumers have already lost about £10bn this year to online scams, highlighting the urgent need for innovative tools like JustMe.
Cifas, known for operating the National Fraud Database—the UK’s largest and most diverse source of fraud-risk data—plays a key role in enabling organisations to share and access real-time information to detect and prevent financial crimes. Trend Micro, meanwhile, is a global leader in cybersecurity solutions, helping individuals and enterprises protect their digital environments from evolving cyber threats.
Through JustMe, the two organisations aim to give consumers greater control over how their personal data is used and improve their ability to identify and respond to fraud attempts. The app integrates real-time identity verification with scam detection capabilities, alerting users when applications are made in their name and allowing them to confirm legitimacy immediately. It can also assess potentially fraudulent communications—such as suspicious emails, texts, or social media messages—so users can verify whether they are part of a scam.
According to the Cifas National Database, identity fraud is the most common type of fraud in the UK, accounting for 59% of all reports. This partnership marks a significant step toward addressing that issue through advanced, consumer-focused technology.
Cifas CEO Mike Haley said, “Cifas’s partnership with Trend Micro promises to be transformational. Our shared ambition is to provide tools millions of people to protect themselves from fraud. By combining the proven strengths of Cifas and Trend Micro, we’re aiming to deliver a market-leading solution that sets a new benchmark for fraud prevention. This is a groundbreaking move that elevates our capabilities and reinforces our commitment to protecting individuals and organizations from the ever-evolving threat of identity fraud.”
Trend Micro chief consumer business officer Frank Kuo said, “We are proud to stand in partnership with Cifas in our shared mission to take a more proactive approach to fighting identity fraud and online scams. They are a unique organization well-poised together with their membership to stop cybercriminals from causing further harm to consumers. JustMe is a simple but powerful solution intended to give consumers a way to fight back.”
