Darktrace has announced the acquisition of Mira Security, a company specialising in network traffic visibility and decryption technologies.
The acquisition builds on an existing partnership between the two firms and aims to deepen Darktrace’s capabilities in analysing encrypted traffic, a key challenge in cybersecurity today. The transaction strengthens Darktrace’s position in network security, particularly in regulated industries, although the value of the deal has not been disclosed.
Darktrace is best known for its AI-powered cybersecurity platform, offering threat detection, response, and mitigation across cloud, network, and endpoint environments. Its flagship product, Darktrace / NETWORK, is recognised as a leader in Network Detection and Response by industry analysts including Gartner, IDC, and KuppingerCole.
Mira Security focuses on advanced network visibility solutions, particularly for encrypted data streams. Its technology enables comprehensive traffic decryption without impacting performance or requiring major changes to existing network infrastructure. Mira’s engineering expertise lies in building high-performance software and firmware for accelerating network operations.
With this acquisition, Darktrace will be able to integrate Mira Security’s in-line decryption capabilities more tightly into its network security offering. The move will support enhanced visibility across hybrid, cloud, and on-premise environments—an essential capability for financial institutions, governments, and critical infrastructure operators.
Mira Security’s engineering team, based in Centurion, South Africa and the US, will join Darktrace’s research and development division. The team’s contributions will be pivotal in accelerating the next generation of Darktrace’s hardware, including support for 100 Gbps interfaces and expanded ingestion capacity for large-scale deployments.
This deal follows Darktrace’s earlier acquisition of Cado Security to bolster its cloud security capabilities, and the company’s April 2025 launch of new AI models for improved detection, context, and threat prioritisation.
Darktrace chief strategy officer Phil Pearson said, “The acquisition of Mira Security is another building block in our strategy to develop best-in-class cybersecurity solutions and keep our customers safe through continuous innovation. Mira Security has already proven to be a valuable source of insight for our AI, helping us provide unparalleled detection and response capabilities at scale. By bringing the Mira Security team’s deep expertise into Darktrace, we will be able to accelerate innovation, deepen the capabilities of our market-leading Network product and unlock even greater security performance for our customers.”
Mira Security founder and CEO Niel Viljoen added, “The combination of Mira Security and Darktrace’s unique technology and brilliant R&D talent will create even more exciting possibilities for protecting complex network environments. Together, Mira Security and Darktrace will be able to deliver new value for customers and partners.”
Darktrace has confirmed that all existing Mira Security partnerships will continue uninterrupted, ensuring ongoing delivery and integration support across their shared global client base.
