EUDI wallet deadline pushes Ondato into Trinsic deal

EUDI wallet deadline pushes Ondato into Trinsic deal

Ondato has teamed up with Trinsic so its clients can verify customers using digital identity credentials.

Under the agreement, Trinsic will supply the underlying infrastructure that powers Ondato’s new digital identity feature. The timing reflects pressure building across the EU, where several member states are now launching EU Digital Identity Wallets in line with the European Digital Identity (EUDI) framework.

The regulatory backdrop is significant. eIDAS 2.0, formally Regulation (EU) 2024/1183, obliges every one of the bloc’s 27 member states to provide citizens with at least one digital identity wallet before the close of 2026.

These wallets take the form of mobile applications, either issued or recognised by governments, through which people can confirm who they are and choose to disclose verified personal details when dealing with regulated firms.

The obligations then shift to the private sector: from December 2027, banks, financial institutions and other regulated entities that rely on strong user authentication must accept these wallets for customer verification whenever a user asks to use one.

Ondato is broadening its toolkit ahead of that change. The company already supports national digital identity schemes such as Smart-ID, and wallet-based verification will now sit within its wider customer intelligence platform.

In common with the firm’s other verification methods, the new capability will inform risk scoring, support ongoing fraud monitoring and detection, and help streamline the customer journey from start to finish.

Ondato serves regulated businesses with a unified offering spanning identity, risk and customer onboarding, positioning itself as a central layer for compliance processes.

Trinsic, for its part, describes itself as a digital ID gateway for identity verification and already enables authentication through national identity services in France, Italy, Denmark, Austria and other member states.

Ondato co-founder and CEO Liudas Kanapienis said, “EU digital identity wallets are the biggest change in a generation to how Europeans prove who they are. For many regulated businesses, accepting them won’t be optional.

“With Trinsic, our clients can accept wallets as they launch, on the same platform they already use for verification, risk and monitoring. It’s another step in our expansion as the intelligence layer between businesses and their customers, in Europe and beyond.”

Trinsic CEO Riley Hughes said, “As the leading digital ID gateway for identity verification, Trinsic has been preparing for EUDI since the earliest phase of the mandate.

“We already support national identity authentication services for France, Italy, Denmark, Austria, and other member states. With this partnership, we’re providing the necessary technology backing for Ondato’s customers amidst the most important European digital ID mandate of the decade.”
