GLN and NAPAS launch QR payment service in Vietnam

Vietnam

GLN International, a cross-border QR payment infrastructure provider and subsidiary of Hana Bank under Hana Financial Group, has gone live with a nationwide QR payment service in Vietnam through a partnership with NAPAS, the country’s national payment network operator.

The service was unveiled at a launch ceremony held on 23 April in Vietnam, attended by the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV), NAPAS, BIDV, and Hana Bank. GLN is leading the technical operation of the payment system connected to Vietnam’s national QR infrastructure. Hana Bank is the sole Korean financial institution to have been approved by the SBV as a settlement bank under the arrangement.

The integration operates through Vietnam’s VietQR Global system, run by NAPAS, which links banks and merchants across the country. Via this connection, GLN allows users of its partner applications to access the Vietnamese merchant network, broadening payment acceptance. The partnership is also intended to support inbound payment use cases, enabling Vietnamese users to conduct QR payments in Korea through their domestic apps.

The service is currently live across popular tourist locations including Da Nang, Phu Quoc, Nha Trang, and Ho Chi Minh City, covering everyday retail merchants. Users can pay through GLN-connected applications — among them major Korean FinTech platforms such as Toss, PurpleGLN, Hana OneQ, Hana Money, and Hana Card — with no need for currency exchange. Plans are in place to extend the service to additional platforms including Naver Pay and KB Banking App.

GLN operates QR payment and QR withdrawal services across 14 Asian markets, including Vietnam, China, Thailand, the Philippines, Laos, and Japan, with a reach of over 200 million QR merchants globally. The company has also formed partnerships with financial platforms in other regions, including Moreta Pay in North America, DeCard App in Singapore, and Taishin Bank in Taiwan.

GLN CEO Seok Lee said, “This launch marks a significant step in connecting Korea and Vietnam through a unified QR payment infrastructure. By integrating with Vietnam’s national QR network, we enable a simple payment experience for travelers using the apps they already use in their home market, without currency exchange. We will continue to lead overseas payments and cash withdrawals without physical cards.”
