Notion Capital backs Umony with $15m funding round

Umony

Umony, which specialises in helping financial institutions manage regulatory communications, has announced the close of a $15m Series A funding round.

The funding was led by Notion Capital, with participation from SeedCamp, Crane Venture Partners and several angel investors, including Hugging Face co-founder Dr Thomas Wolf. The announcement was made alongside the unveiling of a new advisory board featuring high-profile figures from regulation, technology and enterprise leadership.

Founded in 2017, Umony provides financial services firms with tools to capture, archive and analyse communications across multiple channels, including mobile, chat, email, voice and video. The platform is designed to detect risk and ensure compliance with evolving global regulatory requirements.

The company said the fresh capital will be used to expand across major financial hubs, strengthen its engineering and AI research teams, and further develop regulatory product features. It also plans to scale customer acquisition globally, building on its existing base of over 100 international banks and major mobile carriers.

The newly formed advisory board includes former FCA chief executive Tracey McDermott, Hugging Face co-founder Dr Thomas Wolf, former UK FSA director of risk Sally Dewar, former US SEC prosecutor Dr Hemma Lomax, ex-JP Morgan compliance head Stephen Sanders, and Paul Ford, founder and former CEO of Acin. Together, they will advise Umony on regulatory strategy, AI innovation and enterprise scaling.

Tracey McDermott said, “Detecting and deterring market abuse or other conduct failures has never been more critical. But the ever increasing volume and complexity of communications continues to highlight the limitations of traditional surveillance. Umony’s AI-first approach helps firms detect risk in real time – not after the fact. I’m thrilled to support their efforts to bring clarity, control and integrity to financial communications.”

Umony’s founder and CEO Dean Elwood added, “From the start, our mission has been simple: make compliance smarter, faster and future-proof. With this exceptional advisory board and backing from top-tier investors, we’re ready to bring AI-powered compliance to every corner of the financial world.”

This Series A round follows earlier investments from SeedCamp and Crane Venture Partners, which supported the company during its growth into a trusted provider of AI-driven compliance solutions.
