Quantifind, an AI-native risk intelligence provider focused on financial crime and national security, has opened its first Asia-Pacific office in Sydney and named a new regional leadership team headed by Qing Liu.
The move responds to rising appetite for the company’s technology across the region. A permanent base in Sydney gives Quantifind the means to work more closely with Australian banks and other financial institutions, while also serving as a launchpad for expansion into wider Asia-Pacific markets.
The new office forms part of the international growth plan Quantifind set out after securing a $200m growth investment. Summit Partners led that round, with Citi Ventures, S&P Global, Deloitte and Stephens Group also taking part. Asia-Pacific, Europe and the Americas were each marked out as priority markets at the time.
Across the region, regulators are stepping up oversight in areas including sanctions evasion, scams, money mule networks, cross-border payments, customer due diligence and opaque ownership arrangements. This is prompting financial institutions to overhaul how they tackle financial crime.
Yet compliance departments are struggling to keep pace, as the number and complexity of risk signals outstrip their capacity to review them. Older rules-based and keyword-driven tools tend to throw up excessive false positives, frustrating customers and diverting investigators away from real threats.
Liu joins as general manager, Asia Pacific, bringing extensive experience in AML/CTF, KYC, sanctions screening, third-party risk management and Australian regulation. She previously spent more than 12 years at Moody’s, where her latest role was Asia-Pacific head of solution specialists and industry practice leads.
In 2024, she received the Compliance Leader of the Year award at the Women in Banking and Finance Awards. Joining her are Stephen Ngo, who takes on the role of head of solution delivery overseeing regional implementation and technical rollout, and Elizabeth Luu, who becomes senior customer success manager for clients in Australia and across Asia-Pacific.
Quantifind counts six of the world’s ten biggest Tier 1 financial institutions among its clients and supports tens of thousands of professionals working in financial crime, compliance and national security worldwide. Clients have reported notable gains in investigative productivity alongside fewer false positives. According to an independent economic study by Celent, a Tier 1 bank using Graphyte for KYC and sanctions screening could cut yearly alert-handling costs by up to $177.9m.
Quantifind general manager, APAC Qing Liu said, “Financial crime teams are not short of alerts. They are short of time, and they increasingly need to defend every decision they make. The opportunity for AI is not simply to automate existing processes, but to dramatically improve the precision of the intelligence behind those decisions. With a team on the ground, we can combine Quantifind’s global technology with the regulatory, market, and customer context that is specific to Asia-Pacific.”
