Maze, an AI-native cloud security platform, has secured $25m in a Series A funding round aimed at tackling the growing challenge of vulnerability management.
The latest funding round was led by Theory Ventures, with participation from existing backers Cherry Ventures and Tapestry VC. This new investment brings Maze’s total funding to $31m, following a $6m seed round led by Cherry Ventures nine months ago.
Founded less than a year ago, Maze focuses on resolving cloud security vulnerabilities using AI agents that operate more like humans rather than relying on static rules. Its technology allows organisations to investigate, triage, and automatically remediate vulnerabilities, reducing the manual workload on security teams.
With this fresh capital, Maze plans to continue scaling its team and broaden the application of its AI-native platform into additional use cases across the cybersecurity landscape.
The need for more advanced solutions has become critical as vulnerability exploitation has surged. In 2024, incidents caused by exploited vulnerabilities rose by 34%, surpassing phishing as a leading cause of security breaches. At the same time, the number of known vulnerabilities has climbed by nearly 40% this year. Enterprises typically can only patch around 10% of their open vulnerabilities each month, creating significant exposure, particularly as attackers increasingly leverage AI.
Maze CEO and co-founder Harry Wetherald said, “Before starting Maze, we talked to hundreds of security professionals and heard the same complaint again and again – dealing with vulnerabilities is a nightmare. Security teams are already struggling today, and as attackers get their hands on AI, things are only going to get more difficult. While AI gives us the ability to build better security tools, it is also enabling bad actors to deliver complex attacks at scale. Our goal is to give security teams the tools they need to fight back.”
Maze’s founding team includes Wetherald, Adrian Jozwik, and Santiago Castineira, who bring experience from companies such as Tessian, Elastic, and Amazon. Their team also includes former engineers from Meta, Adyen, and Nvidia. The firm’s AI agents are already in use across more than ten organisations, including two Fortune 200 companies and several fast-growing tech firms.
Elastic CISO Mandy Andress said, “Maze’s product is almost too good to be true. It is a truly novel use of Agentic AI that goes well beyond automating manual workflows.”
Theory Ventures partner Andy Triedman, who has also joined the Maze board, added, “To keep pace with attackers, security tools will need to be re-written to be AI-native. While today’s vulnerability management tools are built to aggregate data for human analysts, Maze is designed from the ground up for autonomous investigations and triage.”
Horizon3.ai, a cybersecurity company behind the NodeZero autonomous security platform, recently secured $100m in its Series D round.
The investment was led by NEA, with additional participation from SignalFire, Craft Ventures and 9Yards Capital. As part of the deal, Lila Tretikov, partner and head of AI strategy at NEA and former deputy CTO of Microsoft, will join Horizon3.ai’s board of directors.
The company specialises in autonomous security, using artificial intelligence to conduct live penetration testing across enterprise systems. Its NodeZero platform operates without human involvement, identifying vulnerabilities by simulating real-world cyberattacks. This allows organisations to test their defences continuously and receive actionable remediation advice based on real threat exposure.
