Hopae has launched real-time verification of Brazil’s digital driver’s licence (CNH) on its Hopae Connect platform, marking the company’s first move into the LATAM market.
The new service pairs secure decoding of the CNH’s official QR code with facial biometric matching checked against government records. Businesses can extract and validate registration details such as name, CPF, date of birth, parents’ names, licence category, registration number, expiry date, first-licence date and issuing state, all drawn directly from the certified document rather than user-typed input.
A live selfie is then compared with the photograph held on official driver’s licence records, producing a similarity score and confidence rating to confirm the individual presenting the CNH is its legitimate owner.
Decoded information is additionally cross-checked with Brazil’s official identity institutions, including the tax authority and SENATRAN, the National Traffic Secretariat, to confirm both the document and the underlying demographic data are genuine and currently valid.
Brazil represents one of the largest identity ecosystems globally, with over 200 million CPF records, more than 85 million records held through driver’s licence adoption, and upwards of 65 million digital CNH credentials in circulation.
Because QR codes became compulsory on all newly issued CNHs from 1 May 2017, and licences issued without one would have lapsed by April or May 2022 under the validity rules of the time, virtually every valid CNH today carries a QR code, giving the service near-universal reach across Brazil’s driving population.
Hopae provides identity verification infrastructure through a single, developer-friendly API, enabling companies to replace manual document review and photo uploads with instant, compliant, government-backed checks.
Its workflows are designed to meet string-level assurance, the benchmark for high-stakes regulated use cases, while aligning with the EU’s GDPR and Brazil’s LGPD, with consent, data minimisation and privacy-by-design embedded throughout.
The company said the launch is only the start of a broader LATAM expansion, pointing to rapid regional growth across FinTech, crypto, online gambling and IDV providers, all of which require trusted, low-friction identity verification. Digital CNH verification is available now on Hopae Connect.
