Instarc lands €1.25m to expand RegTech platform in South Africa

Tallinn-based RegTech provider Instarc has secured €1.25m in strategic investment to accelerate the commercial rollout of its cloud-native compliance platform in South Africa, targeting financial and FICA-accountable institutions facing evolving KYC and CDD requirements.

HFO Investments joined the round as a strategic investor, with Athena Capital and Option 3 Capital advising on the transaction.

The investment comes as South African institutions face evolving obligations under the Financial Intelligence Centre Act (FICA), with Instarc’s platform designed to support firms in managing KYC and CDD requirements. The platform brings together client onboarding, identity and ownership verification, configurable workflows, document management and retrievable audit records. APIs also allow the technology to connect with existing institutional systems.

Instarc is initially focusing on the South African market, while its cloud-native architecture is designed to support different compliance regimes globally.

The platform allows client journeys to be configured according to product, risk appetite and internal controls. This is intended to help firms adjust their compliance processes as regulatory requirements change, without having to overhaul their underlying systems.

Instarc CEO Jonathan Revell said, “We founded Instarc on the belief that compliance should not be a bottleneck. By combining advanced technology with intelligent data architecture, we created a platform that enables regulated organisations to onboard customers faster, reach revenue sooner, reduce operational friction and scale with confidence.”

Revell added, “Our leadership team brings more than fifty years of experience solving complex operational and regulatory challenges for leading global financial institutions. We are now applying that expertise in South Africa, helping organisations replace fragmented compliance processes with modern regulatory infrastructure. When designed and implemented effectively, compliance becomes an operational advantage.”

The funding will support Instarc’s commercial expansion in South Africa as it seeks to position its compliance infrastructure for use across multiple regulatory environments.

The company’s approach reflects a wider shift within RegTech towards embedding compliance processes into core business infrastructure, rather than relying on standalone tools that operate separately from customer onboarding and other operational workflows.
