Sumsub, a global verification and compliance platform used by more than 4,000 businesses worldwide, has introduced a new identity verification tool built specifically for online betting operators active in Brazil.
The launch targets a persistent friction point in the sector: the need for bettors to manually locate, photograph and upload identification documents before they can start playing.
Through partnerships with local data providers, the new tool pulls a customer’s identity details and document image directly from Brazilian databases rather than asking them to submit files themselves.
Bettors need only supply their CPF number, Brazil’s individual taxpayer registration number, and complete a facial liveness check via selfie. Sumsub’s system then cross-checks the retrieved record against the user and runs supplementary verification steps to confirm their identity.
Brazilian gambling rules require operators to verify bettors and retain their personal information and supporting documents, controls that underpin market integrity. Yet the conventional document-upload process has historically slowed down onboarding and pushed up customer abandonment, a challenge the new offering is designed to address without loosening compliance standards.
Sumsub notes that streamlining the customer journey does not come at the expense of oversight. Every verification outcome, including stored identification records and biometric evidence, is logged within a compliance dashboard to preserve a full audit trail. The company adds that all data retrieval operates within the boundaries of Brazil’s LGPD data protection law and relies on explicit consent from users before any information is accessed.
The offering is aimed chiefly at large operators entering the Brazilian market for the first time, international firms extending their footprint across Latin America, and platforms already live in the country that want to strip friction out of their existing onboarding flows.
Sumsub provides identity verification, fraud prevention and compliance infrastructure to businesses across sectors including iGaming, and has been named a Leader by Gartner, Forrester and IDC. The company works with more than 4,000 clients globally, over 400 of which operate within the iGaming industry, and pairs its international compliance experience with tools adapted to Brazil’s specific regulatory landscape.
Identity data retrieval forms just one layer of the broader platform, which can be paired with fraud detection capabilities including device intelligence, fraud network analysis and deepfake detection, alongside transaction monitoring, case management and Summy, Sumsub’s AI-powered compliance assistant. Operators can use these tools to track users continuously, from onboarding through to ongoing monitoring of suspicious activity.
Sumsub says that data or documents which look legitimate in isolation can reveal warning signs once cross-referenced against device data, biometrics, behavioural patterns or links to other accounts, an approach intended to surface fraud that isolated checks might miss. The solution also comes with localised SDKs and dashboards for the Brazilian market plus configurable workflows, letting international operators serve local users while running verification, monitoring and investigations from a single system.
Sumsub iGaming product evangelist Kris Galloway said, “Entering a regulated market requires rigorous verification processes, but this does not mean that the player experience needs to be complex. Our solution allows operators to obtain the information and documents required to strictly comply with Brazilian regulations while providing users with a smoother onboarding experience.”
Galloway added, “Simply having access to the correct data is not enough. Operators need to confirm that the data belongs to the person completing the registration and analyze the risk indicators surrounding that identity. By bringing together onboarding, verification, monitoring and fraud prevention, we provide operators with a more comprehensive view of each user.”
