Ninety One has chosen Fenergo as the technology partner behind a major stage of its digital transformation programme.
The asset manager has selected Fenergo’s unified platform to support its push to become one of the world’s leading investment houses, backing a modern operating model designed to simplify client lifecycle management, tighten financial crime controls and create a more intelligent, client-focused experience at every stage of the customer journey.
Fenergo’s platform will bring together Know Your Customer checks at both onboarding and periodic review, Customer Due Diligence, Enhanced Due Diligence, Transaction Monitoring and intelligent automation within a single operating model, supporting Ninety One’s client base across South Africa, the UK and Luxembourg.
Replacing a patchwork of fragmented processes and disconnected systems, the move gives Ninety One a single, unified view of client relationships, customer risk and financial crime exposure. The firm expects the shift to speed up onboarding, sharpen operational efficiency, reinforce regulatory compliance and smooth the experience for clients and staff alike.
Ninety One cited Fenergo’s depth of financial services expertise, established platform, wide global client base and sustained investment in AI as key reasons behind the decision. Fenergo’s Agentic AI capabilities stood out as a particular differentiator, with the technology set to automate repetitive operational tasks, speed up decision-making and support more intelligent client lifecycle and financial crime operations.
The rollout will happen in phases, building a scalable operating model that Fenergo says will support Ninety One’s long-term growth while leaving room for continued innovation.
Anticipated benefits include a stronger client experience through quicker onboarding, fewer repeat information requests and a smoother client journey; greater operational efficiency by uniting client lifecycle management, transaction monitoring and AI-driven automation on one platform; and tighter financial crime controls through a consolidated view of client risk, ongoing monitoring and sharper decision-making.
The platform is also designed to give relationship managers and compliance teams a deeper understanding of clients before they request information, cutting down on unnecessary outreach, reducing duplicate documentation requests and streamlining how client data is gathered, checked and kept up to date throughout the relationship.
Pairing client lifecycle management with transaction monitoring should give Ninety One clearer sight of customer activity and risk, helping it spot potential financial crime sooner while easing operational complexity.
Fenergo positions the partnership as evidence of its broader ambition: helping financial institutions bring client lifecycle management and financial crime operations together on one AI-powered platform. By linking onboarding, compliance, risk and transaction monitoring, the company argues firms can offer stronger client experiences while reinforcing financial crime defences and building operations that are more agile and scalable for the future.
Ninety One head of global operations Cora Kielblock said, “Delivering an exceptional client experience without compromising on compliance is central to our strategy. As we continue to transform our business, we wanted a platform that would unify client lifecycle management and financial crime operations while enabling us to take advantage of the latest advances in AI. Fenergo’s industry expertise, continued innovation and long-term investment in its platform made it the right strategic partner to support our ambitions.”
Fenergo chief revenue officer Lekshmi Nair said, “Leading financial institutions are moving beyond point solutions towards unified platforms that connect client lifecycle management with financial crime operations. By bringing together onboarding, KYC, Transaction Monitoring and AI-powered automation, organisations can improve client experience, strengthen compliance and operate more efficiently. We’re proud to partner with Ninety One as it builds a modern operating model to support its continued global growth.”
