Curvestone AI automates mortgage compliance checks for Y3S

RegTech provider Curvestone AI has deployed its compliance automation platform at Specialist Mortgage Group, using AI to standardise mortgage case reviews, identify customer vulnerabilities and strengthen audit trails across the group’s advice operations.

The Cardiff-based group, which owns Y3S Loans, Y3S Bridging and Commercial, and Chase Blue Loans, has integrated the platform with its existing customer relationship management system through an API. The technology analyses call transcripts, emails, WhatsApp and SMS conversations, credit files and applicant information, checking each case against the group’s internal policies throughout the advice process.

Four automated checks are now in operation. These cover the collection of lender-required documents, customer vulnerability assessments, Land Registry report reviews and advice suitability assessments. The latter evaluates each case against more than 100 validation points and returns a pass or fail result.

Reports take around five minutes to generate, with each finding linked to its supporting evidence. Advisers remain responsible for final decisions, while assessments and outcomes are recorded for audit purposes and incorporated into monthly management information and the group’s annual Consumer Duty report.

Specialist Mortgage Group has reviewed every case through its quality-control process for almost a decade. The deployment is intended to maintain this level of oversight as the business expands, without requiring a corresponding increase in staff. It follows the Financial Conduct Authority’s completion of its distribution review of the second charge mortgage market, which emphasised suitability alongside eligibility.

An early vulnerability assessment illustrated how automated reviews can identify information that might otherwise be overlooked. During an initial call, a customer briefly mentioned a recent bereavement but did not raise it again. When Curvestone assessed the case a fortnight later, it scanned the customer’s conversations and flagged the reference, enabling the adviser to consider whether additional support or more time to weigh up their options was appropriate.

Curvestone AI founder and CEO Dawid Kotur said, “Y3S already checks every case, which puts them ahead of much of the market. Together we’ve made that oversight consistent, evidenced and fast, built on their own policies and running inside the system their team already uses. We look forward to extending the work as the group scales.”

Specialist Mortgage Group CEO Barney Drake said, “Before Curvestone, vulnerability assessment was done at adviser level, and ensuring consistency across 40 to 50 advisers was far more challenging. Now it’s driven by our policy, and takes minutes to present all evidence to the advisor, who then makes the final call.”

He added, “The investment is comparable to having a person do the work, but the outcome is consistent in every case. AI is there to assist, not to replace, and it puts me in a position to consider significant scale without depending on recruitment.”
