Upwind lands $400m as AI widens the cloud attack surface

Upwind, a cloud and AI security platform provider, has raised $400m in a Series C round led by Bessemer Venture Partners. The deal arrives less than nine months after its $250m Series B and lifts the company’s total capital raised past $800m.

All of Upwind’s existing backers joined the round, including Greylock Partners, Cyberstarts, Craft, Salesforce Ventures, Alta Park, Picture Capital, Swish Ventures, Cerca Partners, TCV, Penny Jar and Leaders Fund. Canapi Ventures participates as a new investor. Upwind plans to use the money to grow its product and engineering teams as it builds a platform to protect cloud and AI infrastructure.

The company says the raise makes it one of the best-funded businesses anywhere dedicated to cloud and AI security, and it describes itself as the fastest-growing player in that market. It frames the capital as a way to help security teams handle the rapidly growing risks that accompany enterprise AI adoption.

Because AI now touches so much of the enterprise, Upwind is developing AI sensors for endpoints, scanners for agents and skills, and a rebuilt inventory graph. The company argues that security coverage must now run from endpoint through code to cloud, extending the older code-to-cloud model.

Upwind also believes AI must be used to counter AI-driven threats. Its Blue Agent pulls together evidence from every log source to form one attack narrative and deals with exploitation attempts at runtime.

The Red Agent safely tests whether vulnerabilities and exposures can actually be exploited, so teams can concentrate on genuine problems. The Green Agent identifies leverage points that allow thousands of findings and resources to be remediated at once.

Alongside these tools, the company has opened an AI Labs for Cybersecurity, designed to give talented researchers the resources and independence to tackle current and future security challenges. The lab covers four areas: AI security; agentic security; frontier models, systems and benchmarks; and advanced AI systems.

Looking ahead, Upwind intends to accelerate, simplify its product further and expand into identity, data and AI. The company credits its customers and partners for the round, noting it competes against some of the world’s largest firms.
