Akamai backs Hush’s $30m bet on AI agent identity

Hush Security, a pioneer in securing the non-human workforce, has secured a $30m Series A round as enterprises grapple with a surge of autonomous AI agents operating beyond the reach of traditional governance.

The round saw Akamai Technologies join as a strategic investor, alongside existing backers Battery Ventures and YL Ventures. Coming less than a year after the company emerged from stealth, the raise lifts Hush’s total funding to $41m.

The investment lands against a backdrop of explosive agent adoption. Gartner projects that by 2028 the typical Fortune 500 firm will operate upwards of 150,000 AI agents, compared with fewer than 15 a year ago.

At the same time, Omdia research suggests 96% of organisations are relying on governance frameworks never designed for autonomous software. Because these agents act independently inside a business’s most sensitive systems, they demand robust identity, attribution, observability and control, a challenge most firms have yet to address.

Hush tackles this by offering a sanctioned route for agents to operate across enterprise systems. Each agent is enrolled in a central registry, has standing credentials removed, and receives scoped just-in-time (JIT) permissions at runtime, with all activity logged and a centralised kill switch available.

The company’s expansion into the agentic workforce gives businesses three core capabilities. Firms can discover every desktop assistant, enterprise agent and custom build, whether managed or shadow, while mapping the MCPs, tools and resources each can access.

They can also control agents from a single point, registering each one, aligning it with existing permissions and enforcing least agency by default. Finally, they can audit every action, maintaining a full trail for security investigations, governance and compliance.

Adoption is already underway globally, with Kyndryl, the world’s largest IT infrastructure services provider, deploying Hush internally and reselling it to its enterprise clients.

The new capital will fund growth of Hush’s engineering and sales teams, particularly in the US, accelerate support for enterprise IAM and agentic ecosystems, including deeper integrations with enterprise AI platforms, and broaden corporate partnerships.

Hush Security CEO and co-founder Micha Rave said, “Every company already knows how to manage identity for its people and its applications. But now software acts autonomously, on its own initiative, inside your most sensitive systems. AI agents need strict identity, not just API keys. We solved that for non-human identities, and now we’re extending governance to AI agents.”
