Hawk strengthens AML strategy with Wagman hire

Hawk, a global provider of AI-powered anti-money laundering (AML) and fraud prevention technology, has appointed Dr Shlomit Wagman as strategic advisor as it looks to reshape the global approach to financial crime and compliance through explainable AI.

Dr Wagman, a recognised authority on financial crime, regulation and artificial intelligence, joins the company with decades of senior policy and enforcement experience.

Dr Wagman previously served as Director-General of the Israel Money Laundering and Terror Financing Prohibition Authority (IMPA), where she led Israel’s accession to the Financial Action Task Force (FATF). Under her leadership, Israel became one of the top three most effective global regimes for combating financial crime. She also headed the country’s delegation to the FATF and acted as Co-Chair of its Risk Working Group, further strengthening her international regulatory credentials.

Hawk CEO and co-founder Tobias Schweiger said, “We are honored to welcome Shlomit as Strategic Advisor at a pivotal moment for the financial industry. As financial institutions move beyond legacy systems to fully embrace artificial intelligence in its many forms, Shlomit’s unique perspective on the intersection of global regulation and agentic AI will be invaluable.”

In addition to her regulatory roles, Dr Wagman is currently a Fellow at Harvard University. She has testified before the U.S. Senate and advised governments on matters including AI, financial crime, digital assets and national security.

Commenting on her new role, Dr Wagman said, “The financial world is at a crossroads where the sophistication of criminal networks can only be met with equally sophisticated AI. Hawk has distinguished itself by creating technology that doesn’t just reduce noise, but actively uncovers complex, novel crime patterns while maintaining the transparency that regulators demand.

“I’ve been very impressed by Hawk’s technology, tools, and team, and I am excited to be working with them to bring more effective, tech-forward strategies to the evolving regulatory landscape.”

Hawk provides AI-native solutions designed to help financial institutions improve detection accuracy and scale their compliance operations. Its platform focuses on explainable AI to ensure transparency across the detection and investigation lifecycle.

The company recently launched Analytics Studio, a solution aimed at AI lifecycle management, and continues to advance its work in Agentic AI for financial crime and compliance.
