LIFE CARD, one of Japan’s innovative credit card issuers, has partnered with IDEX Biometrics to introduce biometric payment cards to the Japanese market.
This marks the first commercial launch of such cards in the country, with a target deployment set for the first half of 2025.
Japan represents one of Asia’s largest payment markets, known for its advanced acceptance landscape that is primed for biometric smart cards. With over 314 million credit cards in circulation, credit cards dominate cashless transactions in the country, accounting for more than 80% of such payments.
LIFE CARD president Keiji Masui said, “LIFE CARD provides innovative, secure and frictionless payment solutions to our growing consumer base. Introducing the latest biometric technology and security to the Japanese market, will reinforce our market positioning, as we attract new customers and increase transactions and customer lifetime value.”
IDEX Biometrics CEO Catharina Eklof highlighted the significance of the collaboration, stating, “LIFE CARD and IDEX Biometrics are bringing more seamless and secure payments to consumers, confirming Japan’s technology and innovation leadership in payments. IDEX is committed to make card payments easier, more secure and accessible for Japanese consumers.”
