Napier AI joins FCA AI Sandbox launch

London-based RegTech firm Napier AI has been chosen to join the launch of the Financial Conduct Authority’s (FCA) new Supercharged Sandbox initiative.

The programme, supported by NVIDIA and NayaOne, aims to accelerate the development of safe and responsible AI solutions across the UK’s financial services industry.

The FCA Supercharged Sandbox offers a unique testing environment for innovative firms to develop and refine AI systems under real-world conditions. Participants gain access to advanced computing infrastructure via NVIDIA AI Enterprise, as well as regulatory guidance and technical support.

A team of five Napier AI data scientists, led by chief data scientist Dr Janet Bastiman, will take part in the three-month pilot. The initiative includes a structured bootcamp, regular progress updates, and a Demo Day to showcase outcomes, concluding with a formal report on results.

Within the sandbox, Napier AI will test new frequency-based AI algorithms designed to detect money laundering patterns using synthetic financial datasets.

According to the Napier AI / AML Index 2025–2026, the UK lost nearly £150bn to money laundering last year. The company believes its new models could substantially close that gap, reducing false positives for consumers and helping firms cut compliance costs. Improved detection rates could also reduce regulatory fines and reputational damage for financial institutions.

Napier AI chief product officer Will Monk said, “The effective and ethical deployment of AI systems across financial services is not a challenge the industry can solve alone, requiring cross-collaboration from businesses, regulators and technology providers to put robust risk management frameworks and safe innovation environments in place. Working through the FCA’s Supercharged Sandbox will enable leading AI players to accelerate the development of game-changing AI solutions in a controlled manner, building safe systems that have a transformative impact across both the industry and wider society.”

He added, “When deployed in specialist areas such as financial crime, AI can drive billions in cost savings. The Napier AI / AML Index showed that UK financial institutions could save £2.54 billion annually through AI-driven AML solutions, and the FCA’s Supercharged Sandbox is the perfect platform to streamline this development and deployment to put this cost saving into action.”

The Sandbox builds on Napier AI’s earlier collaboration with The Alan Turing Institute, the FCA, and Plenitude.

Napier AI provides anti-money laundering and financial crime compliance software to financial institutions, payment providers, and wealth management firms worldwide. Its flagship platform, Napier AI Continuum, is designed to transform compliance from a regulatory requirement into a strategic advantage, serving over 100 institutions globally.
