ThetaRay, a provider of AI-native FCC infrastructure, has named Laure Richmond as its new chief financial officer, putting a veteran of TMX Group and Instinet in charge of its finances as regulators on both sides of the Atlantic raise the bar for compliance technology.
In her new role, Richmond will run the company’s worldwide finance function and direct how it allocates capital and scales its operations. She arrives with more than 20 years of senior finance experience spanning institutional trading and FinTech.
The hire comes as new regulation reshapes demand. In the US, the GENIUS Act places tough BSA/AML duties and real-time transaction screening requirements on digital asset firms and payment issuers.
In Europe, the EU AI Act sets demanding standards for high-risk AI used in financial services, requiring compliance platforms that are transparent and ready for audit. With banks and other institutions moving away from older rules-based tools towards AI systems they depend on, Richmond will shape the financial plan behind ThetaRay’s international growth and entry into new markets.
Most recently, Richmond was CFO of TMX VettaFi and TMX Datalinx, where she oversaw financial strategy for the data and analytics arm of TMX Group. Before that, she spent close to 20 years at Nomura subsidiary Instinet, eventually holding the post of global CFO.
ThetaRay builds AI-driven infrastructure that helps financial institutions detect and manage financial crime risk, with teams in Tel Aviv, London, Madrid and New York.
Richmond will be based in New York but will work across the company’s international operations, linking financial rigour with product development, commercial delivery and client outcomes.
ThetaRay CEO Brad Levy said, “With regulatory shifts turning explainable AI into core infrastructure, scaling globally requires both discipline and sharp execution. Laure’s proven track record across major financial technology platforms and her hands-on approach make her the partner we need to drive our capital strategy and lead industry innovation and consolidation.”
Richmond added, “ThetaRay is defining the future of financial crime compliance through agentic AI. Spending time on the ground with our teams in Tel Aviv, London, Madrid, and New York confirmed the immense opportunity ahead. My focus is on pairing capital strategy with product innovation to expand our platform capabilities and capitalize on strategic growth opportunities.”
