Sumsub closes the identity gap IAM systems leave open

Sumsub has launched Workforce Verification, a new solution designed to close the identity gap inside corporate access systems by combining document checks, biometric liveness and background screening within a single enterprise tool.

The offering integrates directly with existing identity and access management (IAM) and human resources platforms, giving multinational companies continuous assurance over who is really behind an employee account throughout their time at the business, from the moment they are hired through to password and account recovery requests.

Conventional IAM tools confirm that someone holds the right password or authentication token, but they cannot confirm that the person presenting those credentials is who they claim to be. That distinction has become increasingly important as credential theft, deepfake impersonation and social engineering attacks against staff accounts grow more sophisticated, with several high-profile breaches underlining the risk.

Sumsub pointed to Gartner research showing that help-desk driven account recovery is now the leading reason enterprises are exploring workforce verification tools, and that by 2026 nearly a third of enterprises are expected to stop relying on face-biometric checks alone because of advancing AI spoofing techniques.

Workforce Verification is designed to sit as an ongoing policy layer above a company’s existing technology stack rather than replace it. New employees have their government-issued identification checked during onboarding to set a verified baseline.

From that point, the system stays active: if an IAM platform flags a risky event for an existing employee, such as a password reset, an escalation in access privileges or a suspicious login attempt, Sumsub runs an immediate secondary check that blends biometric liveness detection with passive risk signals before allowing the access request to proceed.

The solution draws on Sumsub’s wider fraud prevention network, which the company says spans more than 1.5bn enriched identities, pairing automated background screening with tailored document verification to confirm a person’s employment history and stated credentials.

Sumsub said the launch is intended to cut manual verification workload by replacing easily-guessed security questions with live biometric checks at the account-recovery stage, while reducing the risk that fraudulent candidates or contractors reach sensitive systems, data or intellectual property.

Rather than treating onboarding as a one-off check, the platform is built to re-verify identity at other high-risk moments across an employee’s time with the company, and Sumsub said its underlying technology detects deepfake attempts with up to 99.98% efficiency.

Sumsub chief product officer Andrew Novoselsky said, “IAM systems manage access, but a valid credential only proves possession, not identity. In an enterprise setting, a compromised employee account costs the keys to critical business operations. Workforce Verification plugs seamlessly into existing IAM and HR platforms to trigger live, deepfake-resistant checks at high-risk moments, stopping fraud without replacing existing infrastructure.”
