Tomoarrow’s RegTech fix for a global identity blind spot

Locked out abroad: the identity gap Tomoarrow wants to close

Tomoarrow, a South Korean RegTech and FinTech company, has launched an eKYC solution designed to help businesses verify customers who do not hold locally issued identity credentials.

The launch addresses a growing challenge for compliance teams as more people live, work, study and travel across borders for extended periods. While digital identity systems are often designed around domestic residents, international customers may lack the local documents, mobile numbers or other credentials required to complete standard verification checks.

This can leave businesses caught between meeting KYC and financial crime requirements and providing access to legitimate international customers. Failure to verify users adequately can increase exposure to identity theft, account abuse, payment fraud, chargebacks and money laundering, while overly rigid verification requirements can exclude genuine customers.

Tomoarrow’s TomoIDV generates a client-specific Pseudonymous Permanent Identifier (PPID), allowing businesses to recognise returning customers while limiting exposure of their underlying identity data.

The platform uses home-country identity documents, mobile numbers, selfies and liveness checks, alongside authoritative data sources in the customer’s home country where available. This allows businesses to verify users based on credentials from their country of origin rather than requiring them to first obtain local documentation.

TomoIDV operates through a single API that supports country-specific verification workflows. Businesses can combine basic and enhanced checks according to the service being provided, applicable regulatory requirements and the level of transaction risk.

Tomoarrow said the approach could help businesses extend compliant access to tourists, international workers, migrants, students, remote professionals and other cross-border consumers while maintaining identity and financial crime controls.
