Giesecke+Devrient (G+D) a leader in secure payment and identity solutions, has launched a new product aimed at transforming fraud prevention in digital payments.
The company has unveiled Convego SecureCode, an innovative payment card designed to help banks and financial institutions combat card-not-present (CNP) fraud while preserving a smooth user experience.
The launch of Convego SecureCode comes as the financial sector faces growing pressure to reduce the risk of CNP fraud, which accounts for roughly 70% of all credit card fraud cases. As global fraud losses are projected to reach nearly $50bn by 2030, financial institutions are in urgent need of secure and user-friendly solutions to safeguard customer transactions and prevent reputational damage.
G+D specialises in delivering advanced solutions across payments, connectivity, identities, and digital infrastructure. Its products support banks, governments, and enterprises in ensuring secure transactions and interactions in a digital-first world.
Convego SecureCode introduces a significant evolution in card technology. Unlike traditional cards that rely on a static security code (CVV/CVC/CID), this card features a dynamic verification code powered by EVC technology. The code refreshes with each transaction, greatly reducing the risk of fraud if card data is compromised. The dynamic CVV is displayed on an integrated e-ink screen embedded within the card.
The solution preserves the user-friendly nature of standard payment cards, with no need for additional batteries, plug-ins, or external devices. Users can also generate a fresh verification code on demand via their mobile banking app, further enhancing convenience without sacrificing security.
Unlike battery-powered alternatives, G+D’s solution relies on a battery-free EMV® module, which extends the lifespan of the card and reduces complexity for banks and issuers. This makes the product particularly appealing for institutions seeking robust, scalable anti-fraud solutions without compromising consumer ease-of-use.
G+D head of payment cards portfolio Mikko Kähkönen said, “Convego SecureCode is a smart leap forward in securing digital payments without compromising user convenience. Banks now have a future-ready solution to protect their customers and reduce fraud – all while delivering a seamless payment experience that today’s consumers expect.”
