Behavox has brought in veteran surveillance leader Rich Ziegenbalg as executive advisor, strengthening its practitioner expertise as compliance teams move away from fragmented legacy systems.
Ziegenbalg arrives with more than three decades of experience running surveillance operations across global markets. His most recent position was global head of e-communications surveillance at Macquarie Group.
Before that, he led surveillance at several major institutions, serving as global head of surveillance, compliance at BNY Mellon, managing director and global head of ICG compliance surveillance at Citigroup, global head of risk and controls at Morgan Stanley, and managing director, global head of front office supervision at Barclays Capital.
Over that period, he oversaw the e-communications, voice, trade and front-office supervision functions that Behavox’s own clients depend on.
In his new role, Ziegenbalg will split his focus between clients and the company itself. On the client side, he will advise senior compliance and surveillance leaders at existing and prospective customers on operating model design, control frameworks and how to mature their surveillance programmes.
He will also represent Behavox at industry events, executive forums and through thought leadership. Inside the business, he will help refine the firm’s grasp of regulatory developments and its ability to communicate with the compliance professionals it targets. Behavox said the hire underlines its ongoing commitment to perspectives grounded in hands-on experience.
Behavox provides a unified surveillance platform built from nine connected products covering e-comms, trade, archive and central control functions, creating one defensible record across all channels, asset classes and jurisdictions. The company has expanded quickly in recent months.
It launched a Milan office in August 2026 and secured $175m in preferred equity from HPS Investment Partners, part of BlackRock, in June 2026. Its client base now exceeds 120 major financial institutions, among them 70 global banks, a central bank and a national regulator. The firm has been profitable since 2024.
The appointment comes as surveillance leaders increasingly shift from disjointed legacy tools to consolidated, AI-native platforms, pushed by mounting regulatory complexity, pressure on costs and demand for a single defensible record. Ziegenbalg joins the executive team as Behavox continues growing across North America, EMEA, APAC and Latin America.
Behavox executive advisor Rich Ziegenbalg said, “Having spent 30 years building and running risk & control, and surveillance programs from the inside, I know how hard it is to get the target operating model right — not just the technology, but the people, process, and governance around it.
“What drew me to Behavox is the chance to bring that experience directly to compliance teams as they work through those decisions, whether that’s a customer thinking through their surveillance program design or a prospect trying to understand what good looks like.”
Behavox chief revenue officer Nabeel Ebrahim said, “Rich has run the surveillance function at some of the most demanding institutions in the world, and that experience makes us better on both sides of the table.
“Our customers and prospects get direct access to someone who has built target operating models and control frameworks from the inside. And internally, Rich sharpens how we think and how we speak to the market — there’s no substitute for thirty years of practitioner judgment when the conversation turns to regulation, control design, or what a Head of Surveillance actually needs.”
