Melius CyberSafe, a Newcastle-based cybersecurity platform that automates threat detection for businesses, has secured a £250,000 investment to support its continued growth.
The latest funding comes from the North East Venture Fund (NEVF), supported by European Regional Development Fund and managed by Mercia. It brings the company’s total funding to £1.6m to date.
Melius CyberSafe provides an automated cybersecurity monitoring platform designed to protect IT networks, websites and mobile apps. The system runs continuous penetration testing to identify vulnerabilities and supports users in gaining certifications such as Cyber Essentials and CE+.
This new funding will help the company expand its market share following the release of a more advanced version of its platform earlier this year. Melius CyberSafe has already secured clients such as Virgin Wines, Crafter’s Companion and Jules B, and has signed distribution agreements to scale its reach.
The firm has seen notable growth, nearly doubling its annual recurring revenue (ARR) to over £500,000 in the past year. It is now targeting £1m in ARR within the next 12 months, as demand for cybersecurity tools continues to rise amid increasing cyber threats.
Melius CyberSafe CEO Richard Brown said, “The recent attacks on leading retailers should be a wake-up call for every company. CyberSafe aims to make cybersecurity accessible for businesses of all sizes, enabling them to rapidly detect any threats and take swift action. We would like to thank Mercia and the NEVF for their support to help us develop the platform, bring it to market and – with this latest funding round – to further expand our reach.”
Mercia fund principal Ian Wilson added, “Mercia has in-depth experience in the cybersecurity sector, and we are proud to have played a key role in the success of Melius CyberSafe. Traditional cybersecurity is beyond the reach of many small firms due to the high cost but CyberSafe helps to solve this problem by automating key processes. With businesses under attack from criminal gangs and hostile states, the need for it is arguably greater than ever.”
