Theta Lake unveils AI governance suite for compliance

Theta Lake

Theta Lake, a leader in digital communications governance and archiving solutions, has announced the launch of its new AI Governance and Inspection Suite.

The US-based company is known for its work in unified communications and collaboration (UCC) compliance, and has been recognised as a Visionary in the Gartner Magic Quadrant™ for Digital Communications Governance and Archiving Solutions.

The new suite arrives in response to rising concerns among regulated industries over the security, compliance, and oversight of generative AI tools. As enterprises increasingly explore AI assistants such as Microsoft Copilot and Zoom AI Companion, many face significant challenges—particularly around identifying whether sensitive data is being exposed or if AI-generated content aligns with organisational policy and regulatory requirements.

Theta Lake provides cloud-native compliance and security solutions that integrate with major communication platforms including Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and Slack. It helps organisations capture, archive, and supervise modern communication formats, ensuring regulatory compliance and reducing risk in increasingly digital workspaces.

The newly launched AI Governance and Inspection Suite is designed to offer deeper insight and control over the use of generative AI tools within communications. It enables detection of AI assistants, governance over summarised content, and the ability to inspect AI outputs for compliance, security, and data protection risks. This functionality goes beyond the default settings of typical AI applications and equips organisations to enforce their internal policies effectively.

The suite includes three core modules: an AI Assistant & Notetaker Detection Module, a Zoom AI Companion Inspection Module, and a Microsoft Copilot Inspection Module. These tools allow for detailed supervision, selective content capture, user-based retention settings, and the identification of inappropriate data exposures. The Microsoft Copilot module also supports archiving and remediation of AI-generated content directly within Microsoft Teams.

Built to seamlessly integrate with existing UCC platforms, Theta Lake’s solution avoids the need for complex service rollouts. It ensures that organisations can implement robust governance policies while maintaining productivity and collaboration benefits from AI tools.

Key capabilities include identifying confidential data in AI-generated content, detecting missing disclaimers, tracking AI tool usage within communications, and providing flexible retention and supervision settings. It also enables real-time user notifications and proof of policy enforcement for auditing purposes.

Metrigy president and principal analyst Irwin Lazar said, “Metrigy’s primary research shows that more than 89% of companies are currently using, planning to use, or evaluating AI productivity tools like Microsoft Copilot and Zoom AI companion. IT and business leaders say that managing security and compliance for these features is their top implementation challenge. Theta Lake’s AI Governance and Inspection Suite enables companies to realize the productivity benefits of AI while ensuring appropriate governance, visibility, and safety. Organizations that proactively address compliance and security deter employees from going outside of IT to use non-approved applications to achieve the productivity gains that they desire.”

Theta Lake chief product officer Dan Nadir said, “We continue to work with UCC leaders like Zoom, Microsoft, and others, to deliver security and compliance across their entire communication and collaboration portfolio, spanning electronic communications, audio communications, and video communications, including the usage of AI features and content across them. Their customers are consistently looking to adopt more AI capabilities while using Theta Lake’s breadth and depth of governance functionality to be smart, safe, and compliant in using AI.”

Earlier this year, Theta Lake was named a Visionary in Gartner’s inaugural Magic Quadrant for Digital Communications Governance and Archiving (DCGA) Solutions.

The DCGA market represents an evolution from traditional enterprise information archiving (EIA), which focused primarily on email and file-based archiving. The new segment addresses the need for comprehensive capture, archiving, data retention, surveillance, supervision, behavioural analytics, auditing, and e-discovery across Unified Communications and Collaboration (UCC) platforms.
