Global Relay widens Google Workspace archiving for finance

Global Relay, a provider of compliant communications archiving for regulated industries, has broadened its range of Google Workspace connectors, giving financial institutions a way to capture and retain electronic communications from Gmail, Google Chat, Google Meet, Google Drive and Google Calendar inside Global Relay Archive.

The expanded connectors are designed to let financial services firms take up the newest Workspace features without falling short of record-keeping obligations such as SEC 17a-4 and FINRA Rule 4511.

Data from each Workspace application flows into the archive, so compliance teams can retain and oversee activity across the full suite rather than a narrow slice of it.

Banks, brokers and asset managers are turning to tools such as AI-assisted drafting in Gmail and Google Docs, alongside messaging in Chat and video calls in Meet, to raise productivity. Every new channel, however, generates records that regulated firms must preserve and make available to supervisors.

Video calls have become a routine way for professionals to speak with colleagues, clients and counterparties, and through the integration, firms can send Meet recordings, transcripts and related metadata to Google Cloud Storage before archiving them with Global Relay. This adds video communications to the wider compliance and records-management estate.

The connectors also gather the context around each exchange. That includes file activity and version histories in Drive, shared files and conversations in Chat, Meet recordings and transcripts, and the metadata linked to each, building a fuller picture of business activity than messages alone would provide.

Global Relay’s connectors convert information from a variety of communication channels, spanning email, voice and enterprise collaboration platforms, into one standard format. Bringing these records together offers a single view within Global Relay Archive, which allows firms to speed up search and eDiscovery, spot patterns, flag potential risks and support better decisions.

The company positions its centralised environment as an answer to the problem of compliance teams juggling fragmented records held in separate systems.

According to Global Relay, the combination of its archive with Google Workspace means financial institutions need not choose between adopting modern collaboration and AI tools and keeping a dependable, compliant record of how their staff communicate.
