Peoples Group turns to Feedzai ahead of Canada’s RTR launch

Peoples Group, a regulated Canadian bank and trust, and an infrastructure provider supporting the country’s FinTech, credit union and challenger banking sectors, has unveiled a wide-ranging upgrade of its enterprise fraud monitoring systems.

The overhaul comes through a new alliance with Feedzai, a global leader in AI-native financial crime prevention, and is designed to prepare Peoples Group’s core transaction framework for tighter regulatory demands and a more secure instant settlement environment as Canada’s Real-Time Rail (RTR) prepares to go live in late 2026.

The partnership will see Feedzai’s risk-scoring technology woven directly into Peoples Group’s transaction infrastructure. Peoples Group, which concentrates on supplying the compliance frameworks, infrastructure and sponsorship that underpin Canada’s financial technology innovators, is acting now to get ahead of the distinct risk profile that instant payments introduce.

Once the RTR goes live in the fourth quarter of 2026, payments will clear and settle continuously, within seconds, around the clock. That always-on model strips away the settlement lag that banks have long depended on to catch unauthorised transfers and complex scams before money moves.

Rolling Feedzai’s RiskOps suite out across its platform is intended to let Peoples Group’s partners handle real-time transactions with stronger safeguards against fraud and scams built in from the outset.

The move responds directly to shifting fraud patterns and payment habits among Canadian consumers. Payments Canada’s 2025 Canadian Payment Methods and Trends Report found that 49% of Canadians see real-time payments as appealing, yet 53% say fraud concerns shape how they shop.

Feedzai’s AI and machine learning tools, which track billions of financial events worldwide each year, are being deployed to ease these worries by delivering real-time, data-driven protection at the moment a transaction takes place.

Peoples Group intends to roll the integration out in stages, beginning with real-time transaction fraud monitoring and alert management to secure RTR compliance, before widening the scope to cover additional payment types and broader financial crime capabilities suited to the changing compliance demands of Canada’s retail payments market.

The build-out will draw on Feedzai IQ Score, an AI-native federated learning fraud network scoring tool the company introduced in June.

Peoples Group president and CEO David Raju said, “Trust is critical to driving adoption of Canada’s Real-Time Rail, and embedding fraud protection at the transaction level helps all players participate in an instant payments world with greater confidence. For Canada to thrive, we need strong, innovative fraud detection built around the Real-Time Rail. By integrating Feedzai’s risk-scoring technology, we are bringing the learnings of other real-time systems around the globe to Canada’s modernization journey.”

Feedzai co-founder and CEO Nuno Sebastiao said, “Peoples Group and Feedzai share the goal of creating a world of safer money. By combining our proven fraud prevention technology with their modern network, together we will provide the trusted foundation needed to scale secure real-time payments nationwide.”
