US RegTech deal activity dropped 15% in H1
US RegTech market attracted 181 deals in H1 2026, up 7% from 169 transactions in H1 2025 but down 15% from 212 in H2 2025.
Funding fell to $1.6bn, a 28% decline from $2.3bn in H1 2025 and a 54% drop from $3.6bn in H2 2025.
Deal volume held broadly firm on a year-on-year basis, but the sharp contraction in funding across both comparisons points to a meaningful reduction in average deal sizes.
The H2 2025 funding figure in particular appears to have been driven by a concentration of larger transactions that did not carry through into the first half of this year.
California retained its position as the main US RegTech hub with companies based in the state securing 36% of all deals
California retained its position as the most active US RegTech market in H1 2026, recording 61 deals and a 36% share of total activity.
This compares with 57 deals and a 31% share in H1 2025, a 7% rise in volume that also pushed its proportional standing higher.
New York held second place in both periods but slipped in volume, falling from 37 deals and a 20% share in H1 2025 to 28 deals and a 17% share in H1 2026, a 24% decline that also saw its share of overall activity narrow.
Texas retained third place in both periods, recording 14 deals and an 8% share in H1 2025 and 13 deals and an 8% share in H1 2026, a marginal 7% dip in volume that left its proportional standing unchanged.
The ranking held firm across both periods, but the divergence between California’s strengthening position and New York’s retreat is the most notable development beneath the surface, pointing to a gradual concentration of US RegTech activity in the west coast market even as the overall field remained consistent.
Taktile, an AI transformation platform helping banks and insurers build and operate autonomous agent-driven decisions within regulated environments, raised $110m in a Series C round, making it one of the biggest US RegTech deals of the period
The round was led by Growth Equity at Goldman Sachs Alternatives, with participation from Balderton Capital, Index Ventures, Tiger Global, Y Combinator and Dig Ventures.
The platform automates high-stakes compliance and risk workflows including KYC and AML processes, insurance claims assessment and financial crime detection.
It does so within a governance framework that business leaders across credit, fraud and underwriting functions can manage directly.
Financial institutions spend an average of $72.9m per year on KYC and AML processes alone.
Taktile’s clients are already reporting tangible results, including a 75% reduction in AML false positives for customers such as Mercury, Monzo and Pleo, and anticipated savings exceeding $90m in claims processing for one of the world’s largest insurers.
Proceeds will fund enhanced AI capabilities and expansion across the US, EMEA and LatAm.
