US RegTech funding dropped 28% YoY in H1

US RegTech investment in H1 2026 reached $1.6bn across 126 deals, representing a 28% decline in funding compared to the $2.3bn raised across 123 deals in H1 2025.

Deal volume held broadly steady, edging up by just 3% year-on-year, which means the fall in total capital raised was driven by a contraction in average deal size rather than any meaningful reduction in transaction activity.

The average deal value fell to $13m in H1 2026, down from $18.6m in H1 2025, suggesting that while the market remained active in terms of the number of deals completed, investors were committing less capital per transaction.

The picture is one of a sector navigating a more measured funding environment, with deal activity holding up but the scale of individual investments pulling back from the levels seen in the comparable period a year prior.

The state-level breakdown of the top 10 deals in H1 2026 points to a striking concentration of large transactions around New York, which accounted for seven of the ten largest deals in the period, up from two in H1 2025.

That shift represents one of the most pronounced geographic realignments seen across the comparable periods, with New York moving from a secondary presence to an overwhelming dominance of the upper end of the US RegTech funding table.

California, which had led the H1 2025 rankings with five top deals, secured just one in H1 2026, a sharp reversal that underscores the scale of the redistribution between the two states.

Massachusetts returned to the top 10 with one deal, having been absent in H1 2025, and Delaware made a new appearance.

Virginia, Florida and Texas, each of which contributed one top deal in H1 2025, did not feature in H1 2026, reflecting a consolidation of the sector’s largest transactions into a narrower and more concentrated geographic footprint than was evident a year prior.

LeapXpert, a developer of a digital communications governance and compliant messaging intelligence platform, raised $180m in a growth funding round, secured the biggest US RegTech deal of the period

The round was led by Riverwood Capital, with participation from existing investor Portage Ventures, with Jeff Parks of Riverwood Capital joining the board in conjunction with the financing.

New York City-based LeapXpert provides enterprise-grade communications orchestration infrastructure that captures, archives and analyses employee-to-client interactions across consumer messaging networks including WhatsApp, iMessage, Signal and WeChat, within strict regulatory frameworks.

The platform addresses a growing compliance challenge for financial institutions and government agencies, where the proliferation of decentralised messaging channels has created significant gaps in supervisory oversight, data sovereignty and audit trail integrity.

Its real-time compliance architecture is actively deployed across major financial institutions, enabling firms to meet regulatory obligations around communications surveillance without restricting the messaging channels their clients prefer to use.

Proceeds will be used to deepen conversational intelligence capabilities, accelerate enterprise sales across the public sector and Forbes Global 2000 markets, and expand the senior leadership team.
